The Idea

Rock On! will be a Rock based magazine specifically focused around North London. The Magazine will be released both an Online version and Print Copy issuing new releases every month. Providing entertainment and Content for the ages of 16-30. The magazine aims to provide Maximum entertainment and satisfaction from the genre of Rock and all the music that comes with it from within North London.

A Moodboard of a wide variety of elements that go into the Rock Genre which have helped me to understand the font layout and genre I am doing for my magazine. The use of high vibrancy colours here also helped me choose my colour scheme such as red white and black which I have chosen to also use for my magazine.

The Name

The Name of my Magazine is Rock On! This represents the goal of the magazine which is to present Rock music in the best way possible as well as ensure that Rock is truly presented to be a great genre.

The Aim

To become one of the most successful Rock Magazines based in North London. To inform readers about upcoming Rock Artists and music.

To achieve this, our magazine will have to be marketed at the target audience well. We can do this by conducting research on the age demographic of the magazine readers to help understand what will appeal to the majority.

The Genre

The genre I have chosen for my magazine is Rock Music. I have chosen this genre as it is a well established genre used in North London in areas such as Camden. Areas like this hold music venues such as COCO which are based around Rock Music.

Target Audience

Rock On will be aimed at the ages of 16-30 as Rock music Is mainly viewed and listended to by these ages. The magazine will aim to appeal to anyone in North Londons Demographic.

The Social Class rating of the magazine Target audience will also be ABC1 as most people who are able to afford magazines read Rock magazines at the given group.  I plan on applying my gender to be male and female for this group. I also plan on applying my race to be of all races as rock can be presented vastly among all races.

My Secondary target audience will be older men aged between 30-50 of the class of ABC1 as there is a smaller mass of people in North London who also watch  and listen to Rock music. I plan on applying my gender to be male and female for this group. I also plan on applying my race to be of all races as rock can be presented vastly among all races.

Article Ideas

For my article ideas I plan on using a variety of topics such as,

. Q&A with my Rock musician to interact with them and ask them some personal questions about their upbringing and life etc. Doing this allows the reader to stay interested whiles gaining insights on their favourite Artists.

Insight about released music to really understand whats going on behind the music of the artist you love to watch and listen to. Doing this can help create a relationship between the artist and the reader further as well as the reader gain confirmation that your magazine provides good content.

For my 3rd article idea I could potentially do a top 20 list of all the best rock musicians in North London at the time, doing this would mean that I could attract a wide audience of people to look and listen to who is the top 20 in the month.

The Price

The Price of the magazine will be roughly £3.50 As due to the demographic most people will be able to afford this magazine. We want to have a non subscription based magazine that you can just buy when you wish to do so. The online copy of the magazine will only be accessible by purchasing the Hard copy of the magazine first.

We will also be selling a subscription based version of the magazine monthly for a discounted price of from £3.50 monthly non subscription to £2.50 with the purchase of a subscription this means the subscription package will be overall cheaper than buying each magazine individually for a year in comparison.

Content And Form

The content based inside the magazine will be focused about Rock artists and bands and who is most popular at the moment. There will be mainly one specific artist from Rock as the main image on the front cover and my Double page spread will be an Interview/Q&A with the artist. The DP spread will be layed out in columns to make it more formal. The magazine will be aimed to be Not extremely formal but formal enough to ensure some attention to detail. To justify my content will be  Aimed at an audience of 20-40 years and will be played out in a formal manner whiles conveying who is popular at the moment.

My content will also be focused on Rock Music as a whole genre as it attracts people of all ages towards rock music as well as introduces new musicians and can help to make sponsorships with them. There'll be around 80 pages in the magazine and due to my price being £3.50 I will need to use a decent quality paper such as glossy paper  as the price of the magazine is decent price therefore decent quality. The magazine will be sold monthly for that price. To justify I have concluded that. I will be focusing my content also around new musicians and how they are introduced into rock.

Resources and Personnel

- Using for main image and DP spread picture- Research information about rock genre
 Research information about Rock
-For the main image and advertisements- Able to edit the images

- To take pictures of the main image for the magazine and DP - To design layouts and schemes - Print company to produce high quality magazines

Marketing

What I could do to market for a Rock music magazine is go to rock venues in Camden and give out  leaflets after events have taken place in the venues. This leaflet will have a QR code on it linking to the main webpage for Rock On! and that will have links to social media pages. By doing this, I am implementing Below-the-line advertising. This means that people will see the leaflets give them to friends and share the QR code online meaning more and more people will slowly promote your magazine without you doing anything.  I am also implementing my target audience of the younger ages as typically younger
audiences will know what a QR code does and older will not hence it linking to the social media pages which is popular among younger audiences.

USP Is giving away tickets to the biggest concerts for rock every month. This engages readers to want to buy the magazine to win tickets.

The pricing of my magazine will be low and affordable as it becomes more attractive to younger audiences which is my primary target who don't have a lot of money due to their age. Thus making it cheap and affordable. To do this, We need sponsoring from investors be able to afford to make and sell copies of the magazine to the public. I will also give away leaflets for my magazine by rock venues in Camden to attract a primary and secondary audience.
I plan on going into Camden market which is a very Rock based area and renting a stall in the centre of the Camden market and selling copies of my magazine.

Distribution

For my distribution of my magazine I plan on using social media to attract people to talk about the latest edition of the magazine and make people want to read my magazines. Doing this will allow people to buy the magazine and be given an exclusive online copy of the magazine upon purchase of the magazine Hard print.
By using social media to distribute my magazine I am able to target my younger audience directly and enable them to use social media pages to keep in touch and up to date with the magazine, following this the implementation of a QR code here also helps to do this and distribute my magazine as I said in my marketing section helps to target my younger audience and appeals to them directly.

I may also do a subscription of the magazine as they would be buying the magazine in bulk so roughly 3 pound is one month worth so 36 pounds for a year which even if they don't like they would already have bought. Also if they did this we can offer them the free online edition monthly. I will distribute my magazine online through the QR code given inside the magazine with access to the online copy of Rock On! there will then be links to social media pages where tickets for upcoming events will be sold.

Examples of Magazines in competition

These are competitors for my magazine as they all represent a form of rock and what I need to beat. CLASH is competitive towards me as it presents rock in a classic theme. This shows how rock can be adapted and applied into different variety of rock.
I can learn from this magazine to make my magazine more attractive to a classic rock audience when I am attempting to create a classic rock magazine.

Kerrang! is another competitor to me of Rock as it present rock to be "hardcore and serious" and allows me to also be able to identify the codes and conventions of a hard rock magazine. Doing this stimulates competition and for me to take initiative to adapt my magazines colour schemes and Fonts etc.

NME is also a competitor as it is an online focused magazine and can compete with my online copy of Rock on! It also presents various rock genres online in a way that allows me to adapt my online copy as well. I can use this magazine to be able to promote and adapt my online version.

Potential fonts for text

<------- American captain font which is bold and easy to read.

<------- Bellarose font is very spaced out and neat so can be a good attention font to help the reader understand rock font.

<------- Nickston One font is also a very bold font and is easy to read and see as well as is dominant in the DP spread. (Use for Cover Lines and strap Lines NOT DP)

For the body of my DP Spread I have chosen to use the Arial font which I am using currently here. This font is simple and easy to read and allows me to have a clean sans serif style font.

Colour Scheme

The colour scheme for my magazine will be a use of 4 main colours for my magazine front cover and DP spread of red, white, grey  and black. These 4 main colours help to create a slick edgy and serious background for the magazine. This helps present the genre of Rock through my magazine as it creates a fitting scene for my magazine to be around colour wise.

Sketches

These images of my Front cover and my Double page spread are designed to have a rock inspired theme hence the cover lines using zig zagged lines to show a funky atmosphere, as well as this the front cover shows lots of information on pieces of rock artists and venues a free poster which helps to sell the magazine. The front cover applies to my primary audience of 16-25 which is my younger audience due to the colour scheme being very stereotypical to Rock and makes the magazine more attractive to readers

The Double Page spread is a very simple one and is using the Arial font for my text to have an easy to read text for an exclusive interview with an Upcoming Rock artists. The main images of both my front cover and DP spread will be unique to each other and show contrast in Rock Fashion. The advertisements will also be sponsored with the people we are advertising and potentially using product placement to advertise more magazines.
